News and commentary about the intersection of information technology, politics, and policy presented by the members of Digital Politics, a course at Hamilton College.
This seems to be yet another example of a person mass friend-ing, or on sites such as linked in connecting, so that they can build their own network for individual benefits. This is the danger of opening up networks outside their intended purpose, and possibly will lead to their being caps on the number of friends or connections as Dan Nye stated during his speech.
I agree with the previous comment. Mass friending on a sight like facebook though doesn't seem like it would have the kind of benefit that linkedin would have. At least with that particular sight, having more contacts allows a person to be connected to other professionals. Facebook mass frieding is just going to give you a lot of random people who will then bombard your newsfeed with useless info about their lives. It seems absurd to me that facebook could take over the search engines.
